The Delhi government announced on March 1st that from April 1st, all gas stations will prohibit providing fuel to gasoline vehicles over 15 years old to control exhaust emissions. This policy is a reinforcement of the existing vehicle restrictions in the Delhi region (diesel vehicles over 10 years old and gasoline vehicles over 15 years old are prohibited), and is planned to be implemented through identification devices installed at gas stations. In addition, the government also requires the installation of smoke prevention facilities in public places and plans to replace 90% of natural gas buses with electric vehicles by the end of the year.
The policy has sparked controversy: the Gasoline Dealers Association has expressed support for it, but some environmentalists question the scientific validity of the policy, believing that industrial pollution, building dust, and downtown thermal power plants are the main sources of pollution and should be given priority in addressing these areas. At present, the air pollution problem in Delhi has been severe for a long time, and car exhaust is considered one of the main causes.
