Recently, the Belgian Ministry of Labour and Ministry of Education jointly launched a new "Targeted Investment Program" aimed at providing students with a career counseling framework to help them understand the workplace as early as possible and clarify their career development direction.
The 'Targeted Investment Plan' integrates career counseling into school curriculum, with different career exploration themes set at each stage from primary school to secondary school. The main content of the plan includes: firstly, career exploration. In the fifth and sixth grades of primary school (11-12 years old), students will use one day of classroom time to explore activities related to their profession or professional field. The second is professional observation. In the second year of middle school (13-14 years old), students will complete a one-day career experience in a real enterprise, gaining initial professional experience through observation, participation in daily work, and completion of basic tasks. The third is enterprise exploration. In the third year of middle school (14-15 years old), students will conduct a one-day in-depth exploration in real enterprises, visiting and learning different parts of the enterprise to understand its operational mechanism and workflow. The fourth is enterprise internship. In the fourth grade of middle school (15-16 years old), students are required to complete a minimum of 3 days of corporate internship tasks, familiarize themselves with the job responsibilities through observation, training, and mentoring, and independently complete small tasks under supervision.
During the entire implementation process of the plan, students also need to engage in effective self reflection after each stage of career exploration, mainly by recording their understanding of career goals and positioning in digital archives, and combining their talents, interests, professional experience with career goals.
